هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ ضِيَآءً وَٱلْقَمَرَ نُورًا وَقَدَّرَهُۥ مَنَازِلَ لِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلْحِسَابَ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ يُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ

هُوَ huwa He ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) the One Who جَعَلَ jaʿala made ٱلشَّمْسَ l-shamsa the sun ضِيَآءًۭ ḍiyāan a shining light وَٱلْقَمَرَ wal-qamara and the moon نُورًۭا nūran a reflected light وَقَدَّرَهُۥ waqaddarahu and determined for it مَنَازِلَ manāzila phases لِتَعْلَمُوا۟ litaʿlamū that you may know عَدَدَ ʿadada (the) number ٱلسِّنِينَ l-sinīna (of) the years وَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚ wal-ḥisāba and the count (of time) مَا mā Not خَلَقَ khalaqa created ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that إِلَّا illā except بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ bil-ḥaqi in truth يُفَصِّلُ yufaṣṣilu He explains ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ l-āyāti the Signs لِقَوْمٍۢ liqawmin for a people يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna (who) know

Transliteration

Huwa allathee jaAAala ashshamsadiyaan walqamara nooran waqaddarahu manazilalitaAAlamoo AAadada assineena walhisabama khalaqa Allahu thalika illa bilhaqqiyufassilu al-ayati liqawmin yaAAlamoon

He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon to be a light (of beauty), and measured out stages for her; that ye might know the number of years and the count (of time). Nowise did Allah create this but in truth and righteousness. (Thus) doth He explain His Signs in detail, for those who understand.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عما خلق من الآيات الدالة على كمال قدرته ، وعظيم سلطانه ، وأنه جعل الشعاع الصادر عن جرم الشمس ضياء وشعاع القمر نورا ، هذا فن وهذا فن آخر ، ففاوت بينهما لئلا يشتبها ، وجعل سلطان الشمس بالنهار ، وسلطان القمر بالليل ، وقدر القمر منازل ، فأول ما يبدو صغيرا ، ثم يتزايد نوره وجرمه ، حتى يستوسق ويكمل إبداره ، ثم يشرع في النقص حتى يرجع إلى حاله الأول في تمام شهر ، كما قال تعالى : ( والقمر قدرناه منازل حتى عاد كالعرجون القديم لا الشمس ينبغي لها أن تدرك القمر ولا الليل سابق النهار وكل في فلك يسبحون ) [ يس : 39 ، 40 ] . وقال : ( والشمس والقمر حسبانا ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم ) [ الأنعام : 96 ] .

وقال في هذه الآية الكريمة : ( وقدره ) أي : القمر ( وقدره منازل لتعلموا عدد السنين والحساب ) فبالشمس تعرف الأيام ، وبسير القمر تعرف الشهور والأعوام .

( ما خلق الله ذلك إلا بالحق ) أي : لم يخلقه عبثا بل له حكمة عظيمة في ذلك ، وحجة بالغة ، كما قال تعالى : ( وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما باطلا ذلك ظن الذين كفروا فويل للذين كفروا من النار ) . وقال تعالى : ( أفحسبتم أنما خلقناكم عبثا وأنكم إلينا لا ترجعون فتعالى الله الملك الحق لا إله إلا هو رب العرش الكريم ) [ المؤمنون : 115 ، 116 ] .

وقوله : ( نفصل الآيات ) أي : نبين الحجج والأدلة ( لقوم يعلمون )
