Quran 12:64

Surah Yusuf, Verse 64

قَالَ هَلْ ءَامَنُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا كَمَآ أَمِنتُكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَخِيهِ مِن قَبْلُ فَٱللَّهُ خَيْرٌ حَٰفِظًا وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla He said هَلْ hal Should ءَامَنُكُمْ āmanukum I entrust you عَلَيْهِ ʿalayhi with him إِلَّا illā except كَمَآ kamā as أَمِنتُكُمْ amintukum I entrusted you عَلَىٰٓ ʿalā with أَخِيهِ akhīhi his brother مِن min before قَبْلُ ۖ qablu before فَٱللَّهُ fal-lahu But Allah خَيْرٌ khayrun (is) the best حَـٰفِظًۭا ۖ ḥāfiẓan Guardian وَهُوَ wahuwa and He أَرْحَمُ arḥamu (is the) Most Merciful ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ l-rāḥimīna (of) the merciful

Transliteration

Qala hal amanukum AAalayhi illakama amintukum AAala akheehi min qablu fallahukhayrun hafithan wahuwa arhamu arrahimeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

He said: Can I entrust him to you save as I entrusted his brother to you aforetime? Allah is better at guarding, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

He said: "Shall I trust you with him with any result other than when I trusted you with his brother aforetime? But Allah is the best to take care (of him), and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ولهذا قال لهم : ( هل آمنكم عليه إلا كما أمنتكم على أخيه من قبل ) أي : هل أنتم صانعون به إلا كما صنعتم بأخيه من قبل ، تغيبونه عني ، وتحولون بيني وبينه ؟ ( فالله خير حفظا ) وقرأ بعضهم : " حافظا " ( وهو أرحم الراحمين ) أي : هو أرحم الراحمين بي ، وسيرحم كبري وضعفي ووجدي بولدي ، وأرجو من الله أن يرده علي ، ويجمع شملي به ، إنه أرحم الراحمين .
