Quran 12:82

Surah Yusuf, Verse 82

وَسْـَٔلِ ٱلْقَرْيَةَ ٱلَّتِى كُنَّا فِيهَا وَٱلْعِيرَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ

Word by word

وَسْـَٔلِ wasali And ask ٱلْقَرْيَةَ l-qaryata the town ٱلَّتِى allatī where كُنَّا kunnā we were فِيهَا fīhā [in it] وَٱلْعِيرَ wal-ʿīra and the caravan ٱلَّتِىٓ allatī which أَقْبَلْنَا aqbalnā we returned فِيهَا ۖ fīhā [in it] وَإِنَّا wa-innā And indeed, we لَصَـٰدِقُونَ laṣādiqūna surely (are) truthful.'

Transliteration

Was-ali alqaryata allatee kunnafeeha walAAeera allatee aqbalna feehawa-inna lasadiqoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Ask the township where we were, and the caravan with which we travelled hither. Lo! we speak the truth.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"'Ask at the town where we have been and the caravan in which we returned, and (you will find) we are indeed telling the truth.'"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( واسأل القرية التي كنا فيها ) قيل : المراد مصر . قاله قتادة ، وقيل : غيرها ، ( والعير التي أقبلنا فيها ) أي : التي رافقناها ، عن صدقنا وأمانتنا وحفظنا وحراستنا ، ( وإنا لصادقون ) فيما أخبرناك به ، من أنه سرق وأخذوه بسرقته .
