Quran 12:87

Surah Yusuf, Verse 87

يَٰبَنِىَّ ٱذْهَبُوا۟ فَتَحَسَّسُوا۟ مِن يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَا تَا۟يْـَٔسُوا۟ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يَا۟يْـَٔسُ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ

Word by word

يَـٰبَنِىَّ yābaniyya O my sons ٱذْهَبُوا۟ idh'habū Go فَتَحَسَّسُوا۟ fataḥassasū and inquire مِن min about يُوسُفَ yūsufa Yusuf وَأَخِيهِ wa-akhīhi and his brother وَلَا walā and not تَا۟يْـَٔسُوا۟ tāy'asū despair مِن min of رَّوْحِ rawḥi (the) Mercy of Allah ٱللَّهِ ۖ l-lahi (the) Mercy of Allah إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed لَا lā none يَا۟يْـَٔسُ yāy'asu despairs مِن min of رَّوْحِ rawḥi (the) Mercy of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (the) Mercy of Allah إِلَّا illā except ٱلْقَوْمُ l-qawmu the people ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers

Transliteration

Ya baniyya ithhaboo fatahassasoomin yoosufa waakheehi wala tay-asoo min rawhi Allahiinnahu la yay-asu min rawhi Allahi illaalqawmu alkafiroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Go, O my sons, and ascertain concerning Joseph and his brother, and despair not of the Spirit of Allah. Lo! none despaireth of the Spirit of Allah save disbelieving folk.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"O my sons! go ye and enquire about Joseph and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah's Soothing Mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah's Soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن يعقوب ، عليه السلام ، إنه ندب بنيه على الذهاب في الأرض ، يستعلمون أخبار يوسف وأخيه بنيامين .

والتحسس يكون في الخير ، والتجسس يستعمل في الشر .

ونهضهم وبشرهم وأمرهم ألا ييأسوا من روح الله ، أي : لا يقطعوا رجاءهم وأملهم من الله فيما يرومونه ويقصدونه فإنه لا يقطع الرجاء ، ويقطع الإياس من الله إلا القوم الكافرون .
