Quran 13:40

Surah Ar-Ra'd, Verse 40

وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَٰغُ وَعَلَيْنَا ٱلْحِسَابُ

Word by word

وَإِن wa-in And whether مَّا mā (what) نُرِيَنَّكَ nuriyannaka We show you بَعْضَ baʿḍa a part ٱلَّذِى alladhī (of) what نَعِدُهُمْ naʿiduhum We have promised them أَوْ aw or نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ natawaffayannaka We cause you to die فَإِنَّمَا fa-innamā so only عَلَيْكَ ʿalayka on you ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ l-balāghu (is) the conveyance وَعَلَيْنَا waʿalaynā and on Us ٱلْحِسَابُ l-ḥisābu (is) the reckoning

Transliteration

Wa-in ma nuriyannaka baAAdaallathee naAAiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-innamaAAalayka albalaghu waAAalayna alhisab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them, or make thee die (before its happening), thine is but conveyance (of the message). Ours the reckoning.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Whether We shall show thee (within thy life-time) part of what we promised them or take to ourselves thy soul (before it is all accomplished),- thy duty is to make (the Message) reach them: it is our part to call them to account.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى لرسوله : ( وإن ما نرينك ) يا محمد ( بعض الذي نعدهم ) أي : نعد أعداءك من الخزي والنكال في الدنيا ، ( أو نتوفينك ) [ أي ] قبل ذلك ، ( فإنما عليك البلاغ ) أي : إنما أرسلناك لتبلغهم رسالة الله وقد بلغت ما أمرت به ، ( وعلينا الحساب ) أي : حسابهم وجزاؤهم ، كما قال تعالى : ( فذكر إنما أنت مذكر لست عليهم بمصيطر إلا من تولى وكفر فيعذبه الله العذاب الأكبر إن إلينا إيابهم ثم إن علينا حسابهم ) [ الغاشية : 21 - 26 ] .
