Quran 14:11

Surah Ibrahim, Verse 11

قَالَتْ لَهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ إِن نَّحْنُ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَمُنُّ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَمَا كَانَ لَنَآ أَن نَّأْتِيَكُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

Word by word

قَالَتْ qālat Said لَهُمْ lahum to them رُسُلُهُمْ rusuluhum their Messengers إِن in Not نَّحْنُ naḥnu we (are) إِلَّا illā but بَشَرٌۭ basharun a human مِّثْلُكُمْ mith'lukum like you وَلَـٰكِنَّ walākinna but ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah يَمُنُّ yamunnu bestows His Grace عَلَىٰ ʿalā on مَن man whom يَشَآءُ yashāu He wills مِنْ min of عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ ʿibādihi His slaves وَمَا wamā And not كَانَ kāna is لَنَآ lanā for us أَن an that نَّأْتِيَكُم natiyakum we bring you بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ bisul'ṭānin an authority إِلَّا illā except بِإِذْنِ bi-idh'ni by the permission of Allah ٱللَّهِ ۚ l-lahi by the permission of Allah وَعَلَى waʿalā And upon ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ falyatawakkali so let put (their) trust ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ l-mu'minūna the believers

Transliteration

Qalat lahum rusuluhum in nahnuilla basharun mithlukum walakinna Allahayamunnu AAala man yashao min AAibadihi wamakana lana an na/tiyakum bisultanin illabi-ithni Allahi waAAala Allahifalyatawakkali almu/minoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Their messengers said unto them: We are but mortals like you, but Allah giveth grace unto whom He will of His slaves. It is not ours to bring you a warrant unless by the permission of Allah. In Allah let believers put their trust!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Their messengers said to them: "True, we are human like yourselves, but Allah doth grant His grace to such of his servants as He pleases. It is not for us to bring you an authority except as Allah permits. And on Allah let all men of faith put their trust.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قالت لهم رسلهم : ( إن نحن إلا بشر مثلكم ) أي : صحيح أنا بشر مثلكم في البشرية ( ولكن الله يمن على من يشاء من عباده ) أي : بالرسالة والنبوة ( وما كان لنا أن نأتيكم بسلطان ) على وفق ما سألتم ( إلا بإذن الله ) أي : بعد سؤالنا إياه ، وإذنه لنا في ذلك ، ( وعلى الله فليتوكل المؤمنون ) أي : في جميع أمورهم .
