Quran 14:45

Surah Ibrahim, Verse 45

وَسَكَنتُمْ فِى مَسَٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمْ كَيْفَ فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ

Word by word

وَسَكَنتُمْ wasakantum And you dwelt فِى fī in مَسَـٰكِنِ masākini the dwellings ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ẓalamū wronged أَنفُسَهُمْ anfusahum themselves وَتَبَيَّنَ watabayyana and it had become clear لَكُمْ lakum to you كَيْفَ kayfa how فَعَلْنَا faʿalnā We dealt بِهِمْ bihim with them وَضَرَبْنَا waḍarabnā and We put forth لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلْأَمْثَالَ l-amthāla the examples

Transliteration

Wasakantum fee masakini allatheenathalamoo anfusahum watabayyana lakum kayfa faAAalnabihim wadarabna lakumu al-amthal

Translations

And (have ye not) dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves (of old) and (hath it not) become plain to you how We dealt with them and made examples for you?

"And ye dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged their own souls; ye were clearly shown how We dealt with them; and We put forth (many) parables in your behoof!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( وسكنتم في مساكن الذين ظلموا أنفسهم وتبين لكم كيف فعلنا بهم وضربنا لكم الأمثال ) أي : قد رأيتم وبلغكم ما أحللنا بالأمم المكذبة قبلكم ، ومع هذا لم يكن لكم فيهم معتبر ، ولم يكن فيما أوقعنا بهم مزدجر لكم ( حكمة بالغة فما تغن النذر ) [ القمر : 5 ] .
