Surah Al-Kahf, Verse 104

ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
Word by word
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those ضَلَّ ḍalla is lost سَعْيُهُمْ saʿyuhum their effort فِى fī in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ l-ḥayati the life ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā (of) the world وَهُمْ wahum while they يَحْسَبُونَ yaḥsabūna think أَنَّهُمْ annahum that they يُحْسِنُونَ yuḥ'sinūna (were) acquiring good صُنْعًا ṣun'ʿan (in) work
Transliteration
Allatheena dalla saAAyuhumfee alhayati addunya wahum yahsaboonaannahum yuhsinoona sunAAa
Translations

Those whose effort goeth astray in the life of the world, and yet they reckon that they do good work.

"Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life, while they thought that they were acquiring good by their works?"
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
ثم فسرهم فقال : ( الذين ضل سعيهم في الحياة الدنيا ) أي : عملوا أعمالا باطلة على غير شريعة مشروعة مرضية مقبولة ، ( وهم يحسبون أنهم يحسنون صنعا ) أي " يعتقدون أنهم على شيء ، وأنهم مقبولون محبوبون .
