Quran 18:51

Surah Al-Kahf, Verse 51

مَّآ أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ خَلْقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا خَلْقَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا كُنتُ مُتَّخِذَ ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ عَضُدًا

Word by word

۞ مَّآ mā Not أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ ashhadttuhum I made them witness خَلْقَ khalqa the creation ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ wal-arḍi and the earth وَلَا walā and not خَلْقَ khalqa the creation أَنفُسِهِمْ anfusihim (of) themselves وَمَا wamā and not كُنتُ kuntu I Am مُتَّخِذَ muttakhidha the One to take ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ l-muḍilīna the misleaders عَضُدًۭا ʿaḍudan (as) helper(s)

Transliteration

Ma ashhadtuhum khalqa assamawatiwal-ardi wala khalqa anfusihim wamakuntu muttakhitha almudilleena AAaduda

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

I made them not to witness the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor their own creation; nor choose I misleaders for (My) helpers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

I called them not to witness the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor (even) their own creation: nor is it for helpers such as Me to take as lead (men) astray!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : هؤلاء الذين اتخذتموهم أولياء من دوني عبيد أمثالكم ، لا يملكون شيئا ، ولا أشهدتهم خلقي للسموات والأرض ، ولا كانوا إذ ذاك موجودين ، يقول تعالى : أنا المستقل بخلق الأشياء كلها ، ومدبرها ومقدرها وحدي ، ليس معي في ذلك شريك ولا وزير ، ولا مشير ولا نظير ، كما قال : ( قل ادعوا الذين زعمتم من دون الله لا يملكون مثقال ذرة في السماوات ولا في الأرض وما لهم فيهما من شرك وما له منهم من ظهير ولا تنفع الشفاعة عنده إلا لمن أذن له ) الآية [ سبإ : 23 ، 22 ] ؛ ولهذا قال : ( وما كنت متخذ المضلين عضدا ) قال مالك : أعوانا .
