Quran 2:215

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 215

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنفِقُونَ قُلْ مَآ أَنفَقْتُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ فَلِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا۟ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِهِۦ عَلِيمٌ

Word by word

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ yasalūnaka They ask you مَاذَا mādhā what يُنفِقُونَ ۖ yunfiqūna they (should) spend قُلْ qul Say مَآ mā Whatever أَنفَقْتُم anfaqtum you spend مِّنْ min of خَيْرٍۢ khayrin good فَلِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ falil'wālidayni (is) for parents وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ wal-aqrabīna and the relatives وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ wal-yatāmā and the orphans وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ wal-masākīni and the needy وَٱبْنِ wa-ib'ni and (of) ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗ l-sabīli the wayfarer وَمَا wamā And whatever تَفْعَلُوا۟ tafʿalū you do مِنْ min of خَيْرٍۢ khayrin good فَإِنَّ fa-inna So indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah بِهِۦ bihi of it عَلِيمٌۭ ʿalīmun (is) All-Aware

Transliteration

Yas-aloonaka matha yunfiqoona qul maanfaqtum min khayrin falilwalidayni wal-aqrabeenawalyatama walmasakeeni wabniassabeeli wama tafAAaloo min khayrin fa-inna Allahabihi AAaleem

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

They ask thee, (O Muhammad), what they shall spend. Say: that which ye spend for good (must go) to parents and near kindred and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer. And whatsoever good ye do, lo! Allah is Aware of it.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

They ask thee what they should spend (In charity). Say: Whatever ye spend that is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers. And whatever ye do that is good, -Allah knoweth it well.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال مقاتل بن حيان : هذه الآية في نفقة التطوع . وقال السدي : نسختها الزكاة . وفيه نظر . ومعنى الآية : يسألونك كيف ينفقون ؟ قاله ابن عباس ومجاهد ، فبين لهم تعالى ذلك ، فقال : ( قل ما أنفقتم من خير فللوالدين والأقربين واليتامى والمساكين وابن السبيل ) أي : اصرفوها في هذه الوجوه . كما جاء في الحديث : " أمك وأباك ، وأختك وأخاك ، ثم أدناك أدناك " . وتلا ميمون بن مهران هذه الآية ، ثم قال : هذه مواضع النفقة ما ذكر فيها طبلا ولا مزمارا ، ولا تصاوير الخشب ، ولا كسوة الحيطان .

ثم قال تعالى : ( وما تفعلوا من خير فإن الله به عليم ) أي : مهما صدر منكم من فعل معروف ، فإن الله يعلمه ، وسيجزيكم على ذلك أوفر الجزاء ; فإنه لا يظلم أحدا مثقال ذرة .
