Quran 2:64

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 64

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ لَكُنتُم مِّنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ

Word by word

ثُمَّ thumma Then تَوَلَّيْتُم tawallaytum you turned away مِّنۢ min from بَعْدِ baʿdi after ذَٰلِكَ ۖ dhālika that فَلَوْلَا falawlā So if not فَضْلُ faḍlu (for the) Grace ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah عَلَيْكُمْ ʿalaykum upon you وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ waraḥmatuhu and His Mercy لَكُنتُم lakuntum surely you would have been مِّنَ mina of ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ l-khāsirīna the losers

Transliteration

Thumma tawallaytum min baAAdi thalikafalawla fadlu Allahi AAalaykum warahmatuhulakuntum mina alkhasireen

Then, even after that, ye turned away, and if it had not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy ye had been among the losers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But ye turned back thereafter: Had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of Allah to you, ye had surely been among the lost.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله تعالى : ( ثم توليتم من بعد ذلك ) يقول تعالى : ثم بعد هذا الميثاق المؤكد العظيم توليتم عنه وانثنيتم ونقضتموه ( فلولا فضل الله عليكم ورحمته ) أي : توبته عليكم وإرساله النبيين والمرسلين إليكم ( لكنتم من الخاسرين ) بنقضكم ذلك الميثاق في الدنيا والآخرة .
