Quran 2:94

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 94

قُلْ إِن كَانَتْ لَكُمُ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَالِصَةً مِّن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Word by word

قُلْ qul Say إِن in If كَانَتْ kānat is لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلدَّارُ l-dāru the home ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ l-ākhiratu (of) the Hereafter عِندَ ʿinda with ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah خَالِصَةًۭ khāliṣatan exclusively مِّن min from دُونِ dūni excluding ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the mankind فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ fatamannawū then wish ٱلْمَوْتَ l-mawta (for) [the] death إِن in if كُنتُمْ kuntum you are صَـٰدِقِينَ ṣādiqīna truthful

Transliteration

Qul in kanat lakumu addarual-akhiratu AAinda Allahi khalisatanmin dooni annasi fatamannawoo almawta in kuntum sadiqeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Say (unto them): If the abode of the Hereafter in the providence of Allah is indeed for you alone and not for others of mankind (as ye pretend), then long for death (for ye must long for death) if ye are truthful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Say: "If the last Home, with Allah, be for you specially, and not for anyone else, then seek ye for death, if ye are sincere."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال محمد بن إسحاق : حدثني محمد بن أبي محمد ، عن عكرمة أو سعيد بن جبير ، عن ابن عباس : يقول الله لنبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم : ( قل إن كانت لكم الدار الآخرة عند الله خالصة من دون الناس فتمنوا الموت إن كنتم صادقين ) أي : ادعوا بالموت على أي الفريقين أكذب . فأبوا ذلك على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم
