Quran 20:127

Surah Taa-Haa, Verse 127

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنۢ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ

Word by word

وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhālika And thus نَجْزِى najzī We recompense مَنْ man (he) who أَسْرَفَ asrafa transgresses وَلَمْ walam and not يُؤْمِنۢ yu'min believes بِـَٔايَـٰتِ biāyāti in (the) Signs رَبِّهِۦ ۚ rabbihi (of) his Lord وَلَعَذَابُ walaʿadhābu And surely (the) punishment ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati (of) the Hereafter أَشَدُّ ashaddu (is) more severe وَأَبْقَىٰٓ wa-abqā and more lasting

Transliteration

Wakathalika najzee man asrafa walamyu/min bi-ayati rabbihi walaAAathabu al-akhiratiashaddu waabqa

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Thus do We reward him who is prodigal and believeth not the revelations of his Lord; and verily the doom of the Hereafter will be sterner and more lasting.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : وهكذا نجازي المسرفين المكذبين بآيات الله في الدنيا والآخرة ، ( لهم عذاب في الحياة الدنيا ولعذاب الآخرة أشق وما لهم من الله من واق ) [ الرعد : 34 ] ولهذا قال : ( ولعذاب الآخرة أشد وأبقى ) أي : أشد ألما من عذاب الدنيا ، وأدوم عليهم ، فهم مخلدون فيه; ولهذا قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم للمتلاعنين : " إن عذاب الدنيا أهون من عذاب الآخرة " .
