Quran 24:57

Surah An-Noor, Verse 57

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Word by word

لَا lā (Do) not تَحْسَبَنَّ taḥsabanna think ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieve مُعْجِزِينَ muʿ'jizīna (can) escape فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ l-arḍi the earth وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ wamawāhumu And their abode ٱلنَّارُ ۖ l-nāru (will be) the Fire وَلَبِئْسَ walabi'sa and wretched is ٱلْمَصِيرُ l-maṣīru the destination

Transliteration

La tahsabanna allatheenakafaroo muAAjizeena fee al-ardi wama/wahumu annaruwalabi/sa almaseer

Think not that the disbelievers can escape in the land. Fire will be their home - a hapless journey's end!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Never think thou that the Unbelievers are going to frustrate (Allah's Plan) on earth: their abode is the Fire,- and it is indeed an evil refuge!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله ( لا تحسبن ) أي : [ لا تظن ] يا محمد ( الذين كفروا ) أي : خالفوك وكذبوك ، ( معجزين في الأرض ) أي : لا يعجزون الله ، بل الله قادر عليهم ، وسيعذبهم على ذلك أشد العذاب; ولهذا قال : ( ومأواهم ) أي : في الدار الآخرة ( النار ولبئس المصير ) أي : بئس المآل مآل الكافرين ، وبئس القرار وبئس المهاد .
