Quran 24:59

Surah An-Noor, Verse 59

وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلْأَطْفَٰلُ مِنكُمُ ٱلْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَـْٔذِنُوا۟ كَمَا ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Word by word

وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when بَلَغَ balagha reach ٱلْأَطْفَـٰلُ l-aṭfālu the children مِنكُمُ minkumu among you ٱلْحُلُمَ l-ḥuluma the puberty فَلْيَسْتَـْٔذِنُوا۟ falyastadhinū then let them ask permission كَمَا kamā as ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَ is'tadhana asked permission ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who مِن min (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim (were) before them كَذَٰلِكَ kadhālika Thus يُبَيِّنُ yubayyinu Allah makes clear ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah makes clear لَكُمْ lakum for you ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗ āyātihi His Verses وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah عَلِيمٌ ʿalīmun (is) All-Knower حَكِيمٌۭ ḥakīmun All-Wise

Transliteration

Wa-itha balagha al-atfaluminkumu alhuluma falyasta/thinoo kama ista/thanaallatheena min qablihim kathalika yubayyinu Allahulakum ayatihi wallahu AAaleemun hakeem

Translations

And when the children among you come to puberty then let them ask leave even as those before them used to ask it. Thus Allah maketh clear His revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise.

But when the children among you come of age, let them (also) ask for permission, as do those senior to them (in age): Thus does Allah make clear His Signs to you: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( وإذا بلغ الأطفال منكم الحلم فليستأذنوا كما استأذن الذين من قبلهم ) يعني : إذا بلغ الأطفال الذين إنما كانوا يستأذنون في العورات الثلاث ، إذا بلغوا الحلم ، وجب عليهم أن يستأذنوا على كل حال ، يعني بالنسبة إلى أجانبهم وإلى الأحوال التي يكون الرجل على امرأته ، وإن لم يكن في الأحوال الثلاث .

قال الأوزاعي ، عن يحيى بن أبي كثير : إذا كان الغلام رباعيا فإنه يستأذن في العورات الثلاث على أبويه ، فإذا بلغ الحلم فليستأذن على كل حال . وهكذا قال سعيد بن جبير .

وقال في قوله : ( كما استأذن الذين من قبلهم ) يعني : كما استأذن الكبار من ولد الرجل وأقاربه .
