Quran 27:24

Surah An-Naml, Verse 24

وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ

Word by word

وَجَدتُّهَا wajadttuhā And I found her وَقَوْمَهَا waqawmahā and her people يَسْجُدُونَ yasjudūna prostrating لِلشَّمْسِ lilshamsi to the sun مِن min instead of Allah دُونِ dūni instead of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi instead of Allah وَزَيَّنَ wazayyana and has made fair-seeming لَهُمُ lahumu to them ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ l-shayṭānu the Shaitaan أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ aʿmālahum their deeds فَصَدَّهُمْ faṣaddahum and averted them عَنِ ʿani from ٱلسَّبِيلِ l-sabīli the Way فَهُمْ fahum so they لَا lā (are) not يَهْتَدُونَ yahtadūna guided

Transliteration

Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoonalishshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu ashshaytanuaAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani assabeeli fahumla yahtadoon

Translations

I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah; and Satan maketh their works fairseeming unto them, and debarreth them from the way (of Truth), so that they go not aright;

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides Allah: Satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path,- so they receive no guidance,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ولهذا قال : ( وجدتها وقومها يسجدون للشمس من دون الله وزين لهم الشيطان أعمالهم فصدهم عن السبيل ) أي : عن طريق الحق ، ( فهم لا يهتدون ) .
