Quran 28:73

Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 73

وَمِن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

Word by word

وَمِن wamin And from رَّحْمَتِهِۦ raḥmatihi His Mercy جَعَلَ jaʿala He made لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلَّيْلَ al-layla the night وَٱلنَّهَارَ wal-nahāra and the day لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ litaskunū that you may rest فِيهِ fīhi therein وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ walitabtaghū and that you may seek مِن min from فَضْلِهِۦ faḍlihi His Bounty وَلَعَلَّكُمْ walaʿallakum and so that you may تَشْكُرُونَ tashkurūna be grateful

Transliteration

Wamin rahmatihi jaAAala lakumuallayla wannahara litaskunoo feehi walitabtaghoomin fadlihi walaAAallakum tashkuroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Of His mercy hath He appointed for you night and day, that therein ye may rest, and that ye may seek His bounty, and that haply ye may be thankful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you Night and Day,- that ye may rest therein, and that ye may seek of his Grace;- and in order that ye may be grateful.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

أي : بكم ( جعل لكم الليل والنهار ) أي : خلق هذا وهذا ( لتسكنوا فيه ) أي : في الليل ، ( ولتبتغوا من فضله ) أي : في النهار بالأسفار والترحال ، والحركات والأشغال ، وهذا من باب اللف والنشر .

وقوله : ( ولعلكم تشكرون ) أي : تشكرون الله بأنواع العبادات في الليل والنهار ، ومن فاته شيء بالليل استدركه بالنهار ، أو بالنهار استدركه بالليل ، كما قال تعالى : ( وهو الذي جعل الليل والنهار خلفة لمن أراد أن يذكر أو أراد شكورا ) [ الفرقان : 62 ] . والآيات في هذا كثيرة .
