Quran 29:16

Surah Al-Ankaboot, Verse 16

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Word by word

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ wa-ib'rāhīma And Ibrahim إِذْ idh when قَالَ qāla he said لِقَوْمِهِ liqawmihi to his people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ uʿ'budū Worship ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۖ wa-ittaqūhu and fear Him ذَٰلِكُمْ dhālikum That خَيْرٌۭ khayrun (is) better لَّكُمْ lakum for you إِن in if كُنتُمْ kuntum you تَعْلَمُونَ taʿlamūna know

Transliteration

Wa-ibraheema ith qalaliqawmihi oAAbudoo Allaha wattaqoohu thalikumkhayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoon

Translations

And Abraham! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Serve Allah, and keep your duty unto Him; that is better for you if ye did but know.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And (We also saved) Abraham: behold, he said to his people, "Serve Allah and fear Him: that will be best for you- If ye understand!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن عبده ورسوله وخليله إبراهيم إمام الحنفاء : أنه دعا قومه إلى عبادة الله وحده لا شريك له ، والإخلاص له في التقوى ، وطلب الرزق منه وحده لا شريك له ، وتوحيده في الشكر ، فإنه المشكور على النعم ، لا مسدي لها غيره ، فقال لقومه : ( اعبدوا الله واتقوه ) أي : أخلصوا له العبادة والخوف ، ( ذلكم خير لكم إن كنتم تعلمون ) أي : إذا فعلتم ذلك حصل لكم الخير في الدنيا والآخرة ، واندفع عنكم الشر في الدنيا والآخرة .
