Quran 29:68

Surah Al-Ankaboot, Verse 68

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُۥٓ أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ

Word by word

وَمَنْ waman And who أَظْلَمُ aẓlamu (is) more unjust مِمَّنِ mimmani than (he) who ٱفْتَرَىٰ if'tarā invents عَلَى ʿalā against ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah كَذِبًا kadhiban a lie أَوْ aw or كَذَّبَ kadhaba denies بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi the truth لَمَّا lammā when جَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ jāahu it has come to him أَلَيْسَ alaysa Is there not فِى fī in جَهَنَّمَ jahannama Hell مَثْوًۭى mathwan an abode لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ lil'kāfirīna for the disbelievers

Transliteration

Waman athlamu mimmani iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban aw kaththaba bilhaqqilamma jaahu alaysa fee jahannama mathwan lilkafireen

Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah, or denieth the truth when it cometh unto him? Is not there a home in hell for disbelievers?

And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject Faith?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( ومن أظلم ممن افترى على الله كذبا أو كذب بالحق لما جاءه ) أي : لا أحد أشد عقوبة ممن كذب على الله فقال : إن الله أوحى إليه شيء ، ولم يوح إليه شيء ، ومن قال : سأنزل مثل ما أنزل الله . وهكذا لا أحد أشد عقوبة ممن كذب بالحق لما جاءه ، فالأول مفتر ، والثاني مكذب ; ولهذا قال : ( أليس في جهنم مثوى للكافرين ) .
