Quran 3:129

Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 129

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Word by word

وَلِلَّهِ walillahi And to Allah (belongs) مَا mā what فِى fī (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَمَا wamā and what فِى fī (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ l-arḍi the earth يَغْفِرُ yaghfiru He forgives لِمَن liman [for] whom يَشَآءُ yashāu He wills وَيُعَذِّبُ wayuʿadhibu and punishes مَن man whom يَشَآءُ ۚ yashāu He wills وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah غَفُورٌۭ ghafūrun (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ raḥīmun Most Merciful

Transliteration

Walillahi ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi yaghfiru liman yashaowayuAAaththibu man yashao wallahughafoorun raheem

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. He forgiveth whom He will, and punisheth whom He will. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

To Allah belongeth all that is in the heavens and on earth. He forgiveth whom He pleaseth and punisheth whom He pleaseth; but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( ولله ما في السماوات وما في الأرض ) أي : الجميع ملك له ، وأهلهما عبيد بين يديه ( يغفر لمن يشاء ويعذب من يشاء ) أي : هو المتصرف فلا معقب لحكمه ، ولا يسأل عما يفعل وهم يسألون ، والله غفور رحيم .
