Quran 33:73

Surah Al-Ahzaab, Verse 73

لِّيُعَذِّبَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَٱلْمُشْرِكَٰتِ وَيَتُوبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًۢا

Word by word

لِّيُعَذِّبَ liyuʿadhiba So that Allah may punish ٱللَّهُ l-lahu So that Allah may punish ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ l-munāfiqīna the hypocrite men وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ wal-munāfiqāti and the hypocrite women وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ wal-mush'rikīna and the polytheist men وَٱلْمُشْرِكَـٰتِ wal-mush'rikāti and the polytheist women وَيَتُوبَ wayatūba and Allah will turn (in Mercy) ٱللَّهُ l-lahu and Allah will turn (in Mercy) عَلَى ʿalā to ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ l-mu'minīna the believing men وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ wal-mu'mināti and the believing women وَكَانَ wakāna And Allah is ٱللَّهُ l-lahu And Allah is غَفُورًۭا ghafūran Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمًۢا raḥīman Most Merciful

Transliteration

LiyuAAaththiba Allahu almunafiqeenawalmunafiqati walmushrikeena walmushrikatiwayatooba Allahu AAala almu/mineena walmu/minatiwakana Allahu ghafooran raheema

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

So Allah punisheth hypocritical men and hypocritical women, and idolatrous men and idolatrous women. But Allah pardoneth believing men and believing women, and Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(With the result) that Allah has to punish the Hypocrites, men and women, and the Unbelievers, men and women, and Allah turns in Mercy to the Believers, men and women: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله تعالى : ( ليعذب الله المنافقين والمنافقات والمشركين والمشركات ) أي : إنما حمل ابن آدم الأمانة وهي التكاليف ليعذب الله المنافقين منهم والمنافقات ، وهم الذين يظهرون الإيمان خوفا من أهله ويبطنون الكفر متابعة لأهله ، ( والمشركين والمشركات ) ، وهم الذين ظاهرهم وباطنهم على الشرك بالله ، عز وجل ، ومخالفة رسله ، ( ويتوب الله على المؤمنين والمؤمنات ) أي : وليرحم المؤمنين من الخلق الذين آمنوا بالله ، وملائكته وكتبه ورسله العاملين بطاعته ( وكان الله غفورا رحيما ) .
