Quran 34:32

Surah Saba, Verse 32

قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوٓا۟ أَنَحْنُ صَدَدْنَٰكُمْ عَنِ ٱلْهُدَىٰ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَكُم بَلْ كُنتُم مُّجْرِمِينَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla Will say ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ is'takbarū were arrogant لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those ٱسْتُضْعِفُوٓا۟ us'tuḍ'ʿifū who were oppressed أَنَحْنُ anaḥnu Did we صَدَدْنَـٰكُمْ ṣadadnākum avert you عَنِ ʿani from ٱلْهُدَىٰ l-hudā the guidance بَعْدَ baʿda after إِذْ idh when جَآءَكُم ۖ jāakum it had come to you بَلْ bal Nay كُنتُم kuntum you were مُّجْرِمِينَ muj'rimīna criminals

Transliteration

Qala allatheena istakbaroolillatheena istudAAifoo anahnu sadadnakumAAani alhuda baAAda ith jaakum bal kuntummujrimeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Those who were proud say unto those who were despised: Did we drive you away from the guidance after it had come unto you? Nay, but ye were guilty.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

The arrogant ones will say to those who had been despised: "Was it we who kept you back from Guidance after it reached you? Nay, rather, it was ye who transgressed.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

فقال لهم القادة والسادة ، وهم الذين استكبروا : ( أنحن صددناكم عن الهدى بعد إذ جاءكم ) أي : نحن ما فعلنا بكم أكثر من أنا دعوناكم فاتبعتمونا من غير دليل ولا برهان ، وخالفتم الأدلة والبراهين والحجج التي جاءت بها الأنبياء ، لشهوتكم واختياركم لذلك; ولهذا قالوا : ( بل كنتم مجرمين )
