Quran 38:27

Surah Saad, Verse 27

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَٰطِلًا ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ

Word by word

وَمَا wamā And not خَلَقْنَا khalaqnā We created ٱلسَّمَآءَ l-samāa the heaven وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth وَمَا wamā and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا baynahumā (is) between them بَـٰطِلًۭا ۚ bāṭilan without purpose ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That ظَنُّ ẓannu (is the) assumption ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ kafarū disbelieve فَوَيْلٌۭ fawaylun So woe لِّلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū who disbelieve مِنَ mina from ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri the Fire

Transliteration

Wama khalaqna assamaawal-arda wama baynahuma batilanthalika thannu allatheena kafaroofawaylun lillatheena kafaroo mina annar

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in vain. That is the opinion of those who disbelieve. And woe unto those who disbelieve, from the Fire!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! that were the thought of Unbelievers! but woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى أنه ما خلق الخلق عبثا وإنما خلقهم ليعبدوه ويوحدوه ثم يجمعهم ليوم الجمع فيثيب المطيع ويعذب الكافر ولهذا قال تعالى : ( وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما باطلا ذلك ظن الذين كفروا ) أي : الذين لا يرون بعثا ولا معادا وإنما يعتقدون هذه الدار فقط ، ( فويل للذين كفروا من النار ) أي : ويل لهم يوم معادهم ونشورهم من النار المعدة لهم .
