Quran 39:50
Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 50

قَدْ قَالَهَا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
Word by word
قَدْ qad Indeed قَالَهَا qālahā said it ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those مِن min before them قَبْلِهِمْ qablihim before them فَمَآ famā but (did) not أَغْنَىٰ aghnā avail عَنْهُم ʿanhum them مَّا mā what كَانُوا۟ kānū they used to يَكْسِبُونَ yaksibūna earn
Transliteration
Qad qalaha allatheenamin qablihim fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboon
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
Those before them said it, yet (all) that they had earned availed them not;
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Thus did the (generations) before them say! But all that they did was of no profit to them.
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
( قد قالها الذين من قبلهم ) أي : قد قال هذه المقالة وزعم هذا الزعم وادعى هذه الدعوى ، كثير ممن سلف من الأمم ( فما أغنى عنهم ما كانوا يكسبون ) أي : فما صح قولهم ولا منعهم جمعهم وما كانوا يكسبون .
