Quran 39:59

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 59

بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَتْكَ ءَايَٰتِى فَكَذَّبْتَ بِهَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتَ وَكُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

Word by word

بَلَىٰ balā Yes قَدْ qad verily جَآءَتْكَ jāatka came to you ءَايَـٰتِى āyātī My Verses فَكَذَّبْتَ fakadhabta but you denied بِهَا bihā them وَٱسْتَكْبَرْتَ wa-is'takbarta and were arrogant وَكُنتَ wakunta and you were مِنَ mina among ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ l-kāfirīna the disbelievers

Transliteration

Bala qad jaatka ayateefakaththabta biha wastakbarta wakunta minaalkafireen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(But now the answer will be): Nay, for My revelations came unto thee, but thou didst deny them and wast scornful and wast among the disbelievers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"(The reply will be:) 'Nay, but there came to thee my Signs, and thou didst reject them: thou wast Haughty, and became one of those who reject faith!'"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ولما تمنى أهل الجرائم العود إلى الدنيا ، وتحسروا على تصديق آيات الله واتباع رسله ، قال [ الله سبحانه وتعالى ] ( بلى قد جاءتك آياتي فكذبت بها واستكبرت وكنت من الكافرين ) أي : قد جاءتك أيها العبد النادم على ما كان منه آياتي في الدار الدنيا ، وقامت حججي عليك ، فكذبت بها واستكبرت عن اتباعها ، وكنت من الكافرين بها ، الجاحدين لها .
