Quran 4:63

Surah An-Nisaa, Verse 63

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَعِظْهُمْ وَقُل لَّهُمْ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ قَوْلًۢا بَلِيغًا

Word by word

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) the ones who يَعْلَمُ yaʿlamu knows ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah مَا mā what فِى fī (is) in قُلُوبِهِمْ qulūbihim their hearts فَأَعْرِضْ fa-aʿriḍ so turn away عَنْهُمْ ʿanhum from them وَعِظْهُمْ waʿiẓ'hum and admonish them وَقُل waqul and say لَّهُمْ lahum to them فِىٓ fī concerning أَنفُسِهِمْ anfusihim their souls قَوْلًۢا qawlan a word بَلِيغًۭا balīghan penetrating

Transliteration

Ola-ika allatheena yaAAlamuAllahu ma fee quloobihim faaAArid AAanhumwaAAithhum waqul lahum fee anfusihim qawlan baleegha

Translations

Those are they, the secrets of whose hearts Allah knoweth. So oppose them and admonish them, and address them in plain terms about their souls.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those men,-Allah knows what is in their hearts; so keep clear of them, but admonish them, and speak to them a word to reach their very souls.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( أولئك الذين يعلم الله ما في قلوبهم ) [ أي ] هذا الضرب من الناس هم المنافقون ، والله يعلم ما في قلوبهم وسيجزيهم على ذلك ، فإنه لا تخفى عليه خافية ، فاكتف به يا محمد فيهم ، فإن الله عالم بظواهرهم وبواطنهم ; ولهذا قال له : ( فأعرض عنهم ) أي : لا تعنفهم على ما في قلوبهم ( وعظهم ) أي : وانههم على ما في قلوبهم من النفاق وسرائر الشر ( وقل لهم في أنفسهم قولا بليغا ) أي : وانصحهم فيما بينك وبينهم بكلام بليغ رادع لهم .
