Quran 40:4

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 4

مَا يُجَٰدِلُ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَا يَغْرُرْكَ تَقَلُّبُهُمْ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ

Word by word

مَا mā Not يُجَـٰدِلُ yujādilu dispute فِىٓ fī concerning ءَايَـٰتِ āyāti (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah إِلَّا illā except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieve فَلَا falā so (let) not يَغْرُرْكَ yaghrur'ka deceive you تَقَلُّبُهُمْ taqallubuhum their movement فِى fī in ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ l-bilādi the cities

Transliteration

Ma yujadilu fee ayatiAllahi illa allatheena kafaroo falayaghrurka taqallubuhum fee albilad

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

None argue concerning the revelations of Allah save those who disbelieve, so let not their turn of fortune in the land deceive thee (O Muhammad).

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

None can dispute about the Signs of Allah but the Unbelievers. Let not, then, their strutting about through the land deceive thee!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : ما يدفع الحق ويجادل فيه بعد البيان وظهور البرهان ( إلا الذين كفروا ) أي : الجاحدون لآيات الله وحججه وبراهينه ، ( فلا يغررك تقلبهم في البلاد ) أي : في أموالهم ونعيمها وزهرتها ، كما قال : ( لا يغرنك تقلب الذين كفروا في البلاد . متاع قليل ثم مأواهم جهنم وبئس المهاد ) [ آل عمران : 196 ، 197 ] ، وقال تعالى : ( نمتعهم قليلا ثم نضطرهم إلى عذاب غليظ ) [ لقمان : 24 ] .
