Quran 40:45

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 45

فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِـَٔالِ فِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلْعَذَابِ

Word by word

فَوَقَىٰهُ fawaqāhu So Allah protected him ٱللَّهُ l-lahu So Allah protected him سَيِّـَٔاتِ sayyiāti (from the) evils مَا mā that مَكَرُوا۟ ۖ makarū they plotted وَحَاقَ waḥāqa and enveloped بِـَٔالِ biāli (the) people فِرْعَوْنَ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun سُوٓءُ sūu (the) worst ٱلْعَذَابِ l-ʿadhābi punishment

Transliteration

Fawaqahu Allahu sayyi-atima makaroo wahaqa bi-ali firAAawna soo-oalAAathab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

So Allah warded off from him the evils which they plotted, while a dreadful doom encompassed Pharaoh's folk,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Then Allah saved him from (every) ill that they plotted (against him), but the brunt of the Penalty encompassed on all sides the People of Pharaoh.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله [ تعالى ] : ( فوقاه الله سيئات ما مكروا ) أي : في الدنيا والآخرة ، أما في الدنيا فنجاه الله مع موسى - عليه السلام - وأما في الآخرة فبالجنة ( وحاق بآل فرعون سوء العذاب ) وهو : الغرق في اليم ، ثم النقلة منه إلى الجحيم .
