Quran 41:13

Surah Fussilat, Verse 13

فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا۟ فَقُلْ أَنذَرْتُكُمْ صَٰعِقَةً مِّثْلَ صَٰعِقَةِ عَادٍ وَثَمُودَ

Word by word

فَإِنْ fa-in But if أَعْرَضُوا۟ aʿraḍū they turn away فَقُلْ faqul then say أَنذَرْتُكُمْ andhartukum I have warned you صَـٰعِقَةًۭ ṣāʿiqatan (of) a thunderbolt مِّثْلَ mith'la like صَـٰعِقَةِ ṣāʿiqati (the) thunderbolt عَادٍۢ ʿādin (of) Aad وَثَمُودَ wathamūda and Thamud

Transliteration

Fa-in aAAradoo fuqul anthartukumsaAAiqatan mithla saAAiqati AAadin wathamood

Translations

But if they turn away, then say: I warn you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt (which fell of old upon the tribes) of A'ad and Thamud;

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But if they turn away, say thou: "I have warned you of a stunning Punishment (as of thunder and lightning) like that which (overtook) the 'Ad and the Thamud!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : قل يا محمد لهؤلاء المشركين المكذبين بما جئتهم به من الحق : إن أعرضتم عما جئتكم به من عند الله فإني أنذركم حلول نقمة الله بكم ، كما حلت بالأمم الماضين من المكذبين بالمرسلين ( صاعقة مثل صاعقة عاد وثمود ) أي : ومن شاكلهما ممن فعل كفعلهما .
