Quran 41:15

Surah Fussilat, Verse 15

فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَكَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ

Word by word

فَأَمَّا fa-ammā Then as for عَادٌۭ ʿādun Aad فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ fa-is'takbarū they were arrogant فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the land بِغَيْرِ bighayri without ٱلْحَقِّ l-ḥaqi [the] right وَقَالُوا۟ waqālū and they said مَنْ man Who أَشَدُّ ashaddu (is) mightier مِنَّا minnā than us قُوَّةً ۖ quwwatan (in) strength أَوَلَمْ awalam Do not يَرَوْا۟ yaraw they see أَنَّ anna that ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah ٱلَّذِى alladhī the One Who خَلَقَهُمْ khalaqahum created them هُوَ huwa He أَشَدُّ ashaddu (is) Mightier مِنْهُمْ min'hum than them قُوَّةًۭ ۖ quwwatan (in) strength وَكَانُوا۟ wakānū But they used to بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا biāyātinā in Our Signs يَجْحَدُونَ yajḥadūna deny

Transliteration

Faamma AAadun fastakbaroofee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqi waqaloo manashaddu minna quwwatan awa lam yaraw anna Allahaallathee khalaqahum huwa ashaddu minhum quwwatan wakanoobi-ayatina yajhadoon

Translations

As for A'ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: Who is mightier than us in power? Could they not see that Allah Who created them, He was mightier than them in power? And they denied Our revelations.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Now the 'Ad behaved arrogantly through the land, against (all) truth and reason, and said: "Who is superior to us in strength?" What! did they not see that Allah, Who created them, was superior to them in strength? But they continued to reject Our Signs!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( فأما عاد فاستكبروا في الأرض [ بغير الحق ] ) أي : بغوا وعتوا وعصوا ، ( وقالوا من أشد منا قوة ) أي : منوا بشدة تركيبهم وقواهم ، واعتقدوا أنهم يمتنعون به من بأس الله ! ( أولم يروا أن الله الذي خلقهم هو أشد منهم قوة ) أي : أفما يتفكرون فيمن يبارزون بالعداوة ؟ فإنه العظيم الذي خلق الأشياء وركب فيها قواها الحاملة لها ، وإن بطشه شديد ، كما قال تعالى : ( والسماء بنيناها بأيد وإنا لموسعون ) [ الذاريات : 47 ] ،
