Quran 42:45

Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 45

وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا خَٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرْفٍ خَفِىٍّ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ فِى عَذَابٍ مُّقِيمٍ

Word by word

وَتَرَىٰهُمْ watarāhum And you will see them يُعْرَضُونَ yuʿ'raḍūna being exposed عَلَيْهَا ʿalayhā to it خَـٰشِعِينَ khāshiʿīna humbled مِنَ mina by ٱلذُّلِّ l-dhuli disgrace يَنظُرُونَ yanẓurūna looking مِن min with طَرْفٍ ṭarfin a glance خَفِىٍّۢ ۗ khafiyyin stealthy وَقَالَ waqāla And will say ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُوٓا۟ āmanū believed إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ l-khāsirīna the losers ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) those who خَسِرُوٓا۟ khasirū lost أَنفُسَهُمْ anfusahum themselves وَأَهْلِيهِمْ wa-ahlīhim and their families يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection أَلَآ alā Unquestionably إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers فِى fī (are) in عَذَابٍۢ ʿadhābin a punishment مُّقِيمٍۢ muqīmin lasting

Transliteration

Watarahum yuAAradoona AAalayhakhashiAAeena mina aththulli yanthuroonamin tarfin khafiyyin waqala allatheena amanooinna alkhasireena allatheena khasiroo anfusahumwaahleehim yawma alqiyamati ala inna aththalimeenafee AAathabin muqeem

Translations

And thou wilt see them exposed to (the Fire), made humble by disgrace, and looking with veiled eyes. And those who believe will say: Lo! the (eternal) losers are they who lose themselves and their housefolk on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! are not the wrong-doers in perpetual torment?

And thou wilt see them brought forward to the (Penalty), in a humble frame of mind because of (their) disgrace, (and) looking with a stealthy glance. And the Believers will say: "Those are indeed in loss, who have given to perdition their own selves and those belonging to them on the Day of Judgment. Behold! Truly the Wrong-doers are in a lasting Penalty!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وتراهم يعرضون عليها ) أي : على النار ( خاشعين من الذل ) أي : الذي قد اعتراهم بما أسلفوا من عصيان الله ، ( ينظرون من طرف خفي ) قال مجاهد : يعني ذليلا ، أي ينظرون إليها مسارقة خوفا منها ، والذي يحذرون منه واقع بهم لا محالة ، وما هو أعظم مما في نفوسهم ، أجارنا الله من ذلك .

( وقال الذين آمنوا ) أي : يقولون يوم القيامة : ( إن الخاسرين ) أي : الخسار الأكبر ( الذين خسروا أنفسهم وأهليهم يوم القيامة ) أي : ذهب بهم إلى النار فعدموا لذتهم في دار الأبد ، وخسروا أنفسهم ، وفرق بينهم وبين أصحابهم وأحبابهم وأهاليهم وقراباتهم ، فخسروهم ، ( ألا إن الظالمين في عذاب مقيم ) أي : دائم سرمدي أبدي ، لا خروج لهم منها ولا محيد لهم عنها .
