Quran 44:38
Surah Ad-Dukhaan, Verse 38

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ
Word by word
وَمَا wamā And not خَلَقْنَا khalaqnā We created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth وَمَا wamā and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا baynahumā (is) between them لَـٰعِبِينَ lāʿibīna (in) play
Transliteration
Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport:
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
يقول تعالى مخبرا عن عدله وتنزيهه نفسه عن اللعب والعبث والباطل ، كقوله : ( وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما باطلا ذلك ظن الذين كفروا فويل للذين كفروا من النار ) ، وقال ( أفحسبتم أنما خلقناكم عبثا وأنكم إلينا لا ترجعون فتعالى الله الملك الحق لا إله إلا هو رب العرش الكريم ) [ المؤمنون : 115 ، 116 ] .
