Quran 5:62

Surah Al-Maaida, Verse 62

وَتَرَىٰ كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُمْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ وَأَكْلِهِمُ ٱلسُّحْتَ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Word by word

وَتَرَىٰ watarā And you see كَثِيرًۭا kathīran many مِّنْهُمْ min'hum of them يُسَـٰرِعُونَ yusāriʿūna hastening فِى fī into ٱلْإِثْمِ l-ith'mi [the] sin وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ wal-ʿud'wāni and [the] transgression وَأَكْلِهِمُ wa-aklihimu and eating ٱلسُّحْتَ ۚ l-suḥ'ta the forbidden لَبِئْسَ labi'sa Surely evil مَا mā (is) what كَانُوا۟ kānū they were يَعْمَلُونَ yaʿmalūna doing

Transliteration

Watara katheeran minhum yusariAAoonafee al-ithmi walAAudwani waaklihimu assuhtalabi/sa ma kanoo yaAAmaloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And thou seest many of them vying one with another in sin and transgression and their devouring of illicit gain. Verily evil is what they do.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Many of them dost thou see, racing each other in sin and rancour, and their eating of things forbidden. Evil indeed are the things that they do.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وترى كثيرا منهم يسارعون في الإثم والعدوان وأكلهم السحت ) أي : يبادرون إلى ذلك من تعاطي المآثم والمحارم والاعتداء على الناس ، وأكلهم أموالهم بالباطل ( لبئس ما كانوا يعملون ) أي : لبئس العمل كان عملهم وبئس الاعتداء اعتداؤهم .
