Surah Al-Maaida, Verse 78

لُعِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ عَلَىٰ لِسَانِ دَاوُۥدَ وَعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوا۟ وَّكَانُوا۟ يَعْتَدُونَ

Word by word

لُعِنَ luʿina Were cursed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieved مِنۢ min from بَنِىٓ banī (the) Children إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ is'rāīla (of) Israel عَلَىٰ ʿalā by لِسَانِ lisāni (the) tongue دَاوُۥدَ dāwūda (of) Dawood وَعِيسَى waʿīsā and Isa ٱبْنِ ib'ni son مَرْيَمَ ۚ maryama (of) Maryam ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that (was) بِمَا bimā because عَصَوا۟ ʿaṣaw they disobeyed وَّكَانُوا۟ wakānū and they were يَعْتَدُونَ yaʿtadūna transgressing

Transliteration

LuAAina allatheena kafaroo min baneeisra-eela AAala lisani dawoodawaAAeesa ibni maryama thalika bima AAasawwakanoo yaAAtadoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Those of the Children of Israel who went astray were cursed by the tongue of David, and of Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they rebelled and used to transgress.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Curses were pronounced on those among the Children of Israel who rejected Faith, by the tongue of David and of Jesus the son of Mary: because they disobeyed and persisted in excesses.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى أنه لعن الكافرين من بني إسرائيل من دهر طويل ، فيما أنزل على داود نبيه ، عليه السلام ، وعلى لسان عيسى ابن مريم بسبب عصيانهم لله واعتدائهم على خلقه .

قال العوفي ، عن ابن عباس : لعنوا في التوراة و [ في ] الإنجيل وفي الزبور ، وفي الفرقان .
