Quran 55:33

Surah Ar-Rahmaan, Verse 33

يَٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَٰنٍ

Word by word

يَـٰمَعْشَرَ yāmaʿshara O assembly ٱلْجِنِّ l-jini (of) the jinn وَٱلْإِنسِ wal-insi and the men إِنِ ini If ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ is'taṭaʿtum you are able أَن an to تَنفُذُوا۟ tanfudhū pass beyond مِنْ min [of] أَقْطَارِ aqṭāri (the) regions ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ wal-arḍi and the earth فَٱنفُذُوا۟ ۚ fa-unfudhū then pass لَا lā Not تَنفُذُونَ tanfudhūna you (can) pass إِلَّا illā except بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ bisul'ṭānin by authority

Transliteration

Ya maAAshara aljinni wal-insiini istataAAtum an tanfuthoo min aqtari assamawatiwal-ardi fanfuthoo la tanfuthoonailla bisultan

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

O company of jinn and men, if ye have power to penetrate (all) regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate (them)! Ye will never penetrate them save with (Our) sanction.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( يا معشر الجن والإنس إن استطعتم أن تنفذوا من أقطار السماوات والأرض فانفذوا لا تنفذون إلا بسلطان ) أي : لا تستطيعون هربا من أمر الله وقدره ، بل هو محيط بكم ، لا تقدرون على التخلص من حكمه ، ولا النفوذ عن حكمه فيكم ، أينما ذهبتم أحيط بكم ، وهذا في مقام المحشر ، الملائكة محدقة بالخلائق ، سبع صفوف من كل جانب ، فلا يقدر أحد على الذهاب ( إلا بسلطان ) أي : إلا بأمر الله ، ( يقول الإنسان يومئذ أين المفر كلا لا وزر إلى ربك يومئذ المستقر ) [ القيامة : 10 - 12 ] . وقال تعالى : ( والذين كسبوا السيئات جزاء سيئة بمثلها وترهقهم ذلة ما لهم من الله من عاصم كأنما أغشيت وجوههم قطعا من الليل مظلما أولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون ) [ يونس : 27 ] ; ولهذا قال :
