Quran 57:21

Surah Al-Hadid, Verse 21

سَابِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا كَعَرْضِ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أُعِدَّتْ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Word by word

سَابِقُوٓا۟ sābiqū Race إِلَىٰ ilā to مَغْفِرَةٍۢ maghfiratin (the) forgiveness مِّن min from رَّبِّكُمْ rabbikum your Lord وَجَنَّةٍ wajannatin and a Garden عَرْضُهَا ʿarḍuhā its width كَعَرْضِ kaʿarḍi (is) like (the) width ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi (of) the heaven وَٱلْأَرْضِ wal-arḍi and the earth أُعِدَّتْ uʿiddat prepared لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna for those who ءَامَنُوا۟ āmanū believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚ warusulihi and His Messengers ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That فَضْلُ faḍlu (is the) Bounty ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah يُؤْتِيهِ yu'tīhi He gives مَن man (to) whom يَشَآءُ ۚ yashāu He wills وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah ذُو dhū (is) the Possessor of Bounty ٱلْفَضْلِ l-faḍli (is) the Possessor of Bounty ٱلْعَظِيمِ l-ʿaẓīmi the Great

Transliteration

Sabiqoo ila maghfiratin minrabbikum wajannatin AAarduha kaAAardi assama-iwal-ardi oAAiddat lillatheena amanoobillahi warusulihi thalika fadlu Allahiyu/teehi man yashao wallahu thooalfadli alAAatheem

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Race one with another for forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whereof the breadth is as the breadth of the heavens and the earth, which is in store for those who believe in Allah and His messengers. Such is the bounty of Allah, which He bestoweth upon whom He will, and Allah is of Infinite Bounty.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Be ye foremost (in seeking) Forgiveness from your Lord, and a Garden (of Bliss), the width whereof is as the width of heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His messengers: that is the Grace of Allah, which He bestows on whom he pleases: and Allah is the Lord of Grace abounding.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

فقال تعالى : ( سابقوا إلى مغفرة من ربكم وجنة عرضها كعرض السماء والأرض ) والمراد جنس السماء والأرض ، كما قال في الآية الأخرى : ( وسارعوا إلى مغفرة من ربكم وجنة عرضها السماوات والأرض أعدت للمتقين ) [ آل عمران : 133 ] . وقال ها هنا : ( أعدت للذين آمنوا بالله ورسله ذلك فضل الله يؤتيه من يشاء والله ذو الفضل العظيم ) أي : هذا الذي أهلهم الله له هو من فضله ومنه عليهم وإحسانه إليهم ، كما قدمنا في الصحيح : أن فقراء المهاجرين قالوا : يا رسول الله ، ذهب أهل الدثور بالدرجات العلى والنعيم المقيم . قال : " وما ذاك ؟ " . قالوا : يصلون كما نصلي ، ويصومون كما نصوم ، ويتصدقون ولا نتصدق ، ويعتقون ولا نعتق . قال : " أفلا أدلكم على شيء إذا فعلتموه سبقتم من بعدكم ، ولا يكون أحد أفضل منكم إلا من صنع مثل ما صنعتم : تسبحون وتكبرون وتحمدون دبر كل صلاة ثلاثا وثلاثين " . قال : فرجعوا فقالوا : سمع إخواننا أهل الأموال ما فعلنا ، ففعلوا مثله ! فقال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : " ذلك فضل الله يؤتيه من يشاء "
