Quran 6:107

Surah Al-An'aam, Verse 107

وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَآ أَشْرَكُوا۟ وَمَا جَعَلْنَٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ

Word by word

وَلَوْ walaw And if شَآءَ shāa (had) willed ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah مَآ mā not (they would have) أَشْرَكُوا۟ ۗ ashrakū associated partners (with Him) وَمَا wamā And not جَعَلْنَـٰكَ jaʿalnāka We have made you عَلَيْهِمْ ʿalayhim over them حَفِيظًۭا ۖ ḥafīẓan a guardian وَمَآ wamā and not أَنتَ anta you عَلَيْهِم ʿalayhim (are) over them بِوَكِيلٍۢ biwakīlin a manager

Transliteration

Walaw shaa Allahu maashrakoo wama jaAAalnaka AAalayhim hafeethanwama anta AAalayhim biwakeel

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Had Allah willed, they had not been idolatrous. We have not set thee as a keeper over them, nor art thou responsible for them.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

If it had been Allah's plan, they would not have taken false gods: but We made thee not one to watch over their doings, nor art thou set over them to dispose of their affairs.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( ولو شاء الله ما أشركوا ) أي : بل له المشيئة والحكمة فيما يشاؤه ويختاره ، لا يسأل عما يفعل وهم يسألون .

وقوله : ( وما جعلناك عليهم حفيظا ) أي : حافظا تحفظ أعمالهم وأقوالهم ( وما أنت عليهم بوكيل ) أي : موكل على أرزاقهم وأمورهم ( إن عليك إلا البلاغ ) كما قال تعالى : ( فذكر إنما أنت مذكر لست عليهم بمسيطر ) [ الغاشية : 21 ، 22 ] ، وقال ( فإنما عليك البلاغ وعلينا الحساب ) [ الرعد : 40 ] .
