Quran 6:114

Surah Al-An'aam, Verse 114

أَفَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبْتَغِى حَكَمًا وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مُفَصَّلًا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُۥ مُنَزَّلٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ

Word by word

أَفَغَيْرَ afaghayra Then is (it) other than ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah أَبْتَغِى abtaghī I seek حَكَمًۭا ḥakaman (as) judge وَهُوَ wahuwa while He ٱلَّذِىٓ alladhī (is) the One Who أَنزَلَ anzala has revealed إِلَيْكُمُ ilaykumu to you ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book مُفَصَّلًۭا ۚ mufaṣṣalan explained in detail وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those (to) whom ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ātaynāhumu We gave them ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna they know أَنَّهُۥ annahu that it مُنَزَّلٌۭ munazzalun (is) sent down مِّن min from رَّبِّكَ rabbika your Lord بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ bil-ḥaqi in truth فَلَا falā so (do) not تَكُونَنَّ takūnanna be مِنَ mina among ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ l-mum'tarīna the ones who doubt

Transliteration

Afaghayra Allahi abtaghee hakamanwahuwa allathee anzala ilaykumu alkitaba mufassalanwallatheena ataynahumu alkitabayaAAlamoona annahu munazzalun min rabbika bilhaqqifala takoonanna mina almumtareen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Shall I seek other than Allah for judge, when He it is Who hath revealed unto you (this) Scripture, fully explained? Those unto whom We gave the Scripture (aforetime) know that it is revealed from thy Lord in truth. So be not thou (O Muhammad) of the waverers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Say: "Shall I seek for judge other than Allah? - when He it is Who hath sent unto you the Book, explained in detail." They know full well, to whom We have given the Book, that it hath been sent down from thy Lord in truth. Never be then of those who doubt.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول الله تعالى لنبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم : قل لهؤلاء المشركين بالله الذين يعبدون غيره : ( أفغير الله أبتغي حكما ) أي : بيني وبينكم ، ( وهو الذي أنزل إليكم الكتاب مفصلا ) أي : مبينا ، ( والذين آتيناهم الكتاب ) أي : من اليهود والنصارى ، ( يعلمون أنه منزل من ربك بالحق ) ، أي : بما عندهم من البشارات بك من الأنبياء المتقدمين ، ( فلا تكونن من الممترين ) كقوله ( فإن كنت في شك مما أنزلنا إليك فاسأل الذين يقرءون الكتاب من قبلك لقد جاءك الحق من ربك فلا تكونن من الممترين ) [ يونس : 94 ] ، وهذا شرط ، والشرط لا يقتضي وقوعه; ولهذا جاء عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال : " لا أشك ولا أسأل "
