Quran 6:32

Surah Al-An'aam, Verse 32

وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ وَلَلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Word by word

وَمَا wamā And not ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ l-ḥayatu (is) the life ٱلدُّنْيَآ l-dun'yā (of) the world إِلَّا illā except لَعِبٌۭ laʿibun a play وَلَهْوٌۭ ۖ walahwun and amusement وَلَلدَّارُ walalddāru but the home ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ l-ākhiratu (of) the Hereafter خَيْرٌۭ khayrun (is) best لِّلَّذِينَ lilladhīna for those who يَتَّقُونَ ۗ yattaqūna (are) God conscious أَفَلَا afalā Then not تَعْقِلُونَ taʿqilūna (will) you reason

Transliteration

Wama alhayatu addunyailla laAAibun walahwun waladdaru al-akhiratikhayrun lillatheena yattaqoona afala taAAqiloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Naught is the life of the world save a pastime and a sport. Better far is the abode of the Hereafter for those who keep their duty (to Allah). Have ye then no sense?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best is the home in the hereafter, for those who are righteous. Will ye not then understand?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وما الحياة الدنيا إلا لعب ولهو ) أي : إنما غالبها كذلك ( وللدار الآخرة خير للذين يتقون أفلا تعقلون )
