Quran 6:81

Surah Al-An'aam, Verse 81

وَكَيْفَ أَخَافُ مَآ أَشْرَكْتُمْ وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمْ أَشْرَكْتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَٰنًا فَأَىُّ ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِٱلْأَمْنِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Word by word

وَكَيْفَ wakayfa And how أَخَافُ akhāfu could I fear مَآ mā what أَشْرَكْتُمْ ashraktum you associate (with Allah) وَلَا walā while not تَخَافُونَ takhāfūna you fear أَنَّكُمْ annakum that you أَشْرَكْتُم ashraktum have associated بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi with Allah مَا mā what لَمْ lam not يُنَزِّلْ yunazzil did He send down بِهِۦ bihi for it عَلَيْكُمْ ʿalaykum to you سُلْطَـٰنًۭا ۚ sul'ṭānan any authority فَأَىُّ fa-ayyu So which ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ l-farīqayni (of) the two parties أَحَقُّ aḥaqqu has more right بِٱلْأَمْنِ ۖ bil-amni to security إِن in if كُنتُمْ kuntum you تَعْلَمُونَ taʿlamūna know

Transliteration

Wakayfa akhafu ma ashraktumwala takhafoona annakum ashraktum billahima lam yunazzil bihi AAalaykum sultanan faayyualfareeqayni ahaqqu bil-amni in kuntum taAAlamoon

How should I fear that which ye set up beside Him, when ye fear not to set up beside Allah that for which He hath revealed unto you no warrant? Which of the two factions hath more right to safety? (Answer me that) if ye have knowledge.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"How should I fear (the beings) ye associate with Allah, when ye fear not to give partners to Allah without any warrant having been given to you? Which of (us) two parties hath more right to security? (tell me) if ye know.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وكيف أخاف ما أشركتم ) أي : كيف أخاف من هذه الأصنام التي تعبدون من دون الله ( ولا تخافون أنكم أشركتم بالله ما لم ينزل به عليكم سلطانا ) ؟ قال ابن عباس وغير واحد من السلف : أي حجة وهذا كما قال تعالى : ( أم لهم شركاء شرعوا لهم من الدين ما لم يأذن به الله ) [ الشورى : 21 ] وقال ( إن هي إلا أسماء سميتموها أنتم وآباؤكم ما أنزل الله بها من سلطان ) [ النجم : 23 ] .

وقوله : ( فأي الفريقين أحق بالأمن إن كنتم تعلمون ) أي : فأي الطائفتين أصوب؟ الذي عبد من بيده الضر والنفع ، أو الذي عبد من لا يضر ولا ينفع بلا دليل ، أيهما أحق بالأمن من عذاب الله يوم القيامة؟
