Quran 61:8

Surah As-Saff, Verse 8

يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ

Word by word

يُرِيدُونَ yurīdūna They intend لِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟ liyuṭ'fiū to put out نُورَ nūra (the) light ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ bi-afwāhihim with their mouths وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu but Allah مُتِمُّ mutimmu will perfect نُورِهِۦ nūrihi His Light وَلَوْ walaw although كَرِهَ kariha dislike ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers

Transliteration

Yureedoona liyutfi-oo noora Allahibi-afwahihim wallahu mutimmu noorihi walawkariha alkafiroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Their intention is to extinguish Allah's Light (by blowing) with their mouths: But Allah will complete (the revelation of) His Light, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it).

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( يريدون ليطفئوا نور الله بأفواههم ) أي : يحاولون أن يردوا الحق بالباطل ، ومثلهم في ذلك كمثل من يريد أن يطفئ شعاع الشمس بفيه ، وكما أن هذا مستحيل كذلك ذاك مستحيل ; ولهذا قال : ( والله متم نوره ولو كره الكافرون )
