Quran 7:149

Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 149

وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِىٓ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَرَأَوْا۟ أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ يَرْحَمْنَا رَبُّنَا وَيَغْفِرْ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ

Word by word

وَلَمَّا walammā And when سُقِطَ suqiṭa (it was made to) fall فِىٓ fī into أَيْدِيهِمْ aydīhim their hands وَرَأَوْا۟ wara-aw and they saw أَنَّهُمْ annahum that they قَدْ qad (had) indeed ضَلُّوا۟ ḍallū gone astray قَالُوا۟ qālū they said لَئِن la-in If لَّمْ lam not يَرْحَمْنَا yarḥamnā has Mercy on us رَبُّنَا rabbunā Our Lord وَيَغْفِرْ wayaghfir and forgive لَنَا lanā [for] us لَنَكُونَنَّ lanakūnanna we will surely be مِنَ mina among ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ l-khāsirīna the losers

Transliteration

Walamma suqita fee aydeehimwaraaw annahum qad dalloo qaloo la-in lam yarhamnarabbuna wayaghfir lana lanakoonanna mina alkhasireen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And when they feared the consequences thereof and saw that they had gone astray, they said: Unless our Lord have mercy on us and forgive us, we verily are of the lost.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

When they repented, and saw that they had erred, they said: "If our Lord have not mercy upon us and forgive us, we shall indeed be of those who perish."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ولما سقط في أيديهم ) أي : ندموا على ما فعلوا ، ( ورأوا أنهم قد ضلوا قالوا لئن لم يرحمنا ربنا ويغفر لنا ) وقرأ بعضهم : " لئن لم ترحمنا " بالتاء المثناة من فوق ، " ربنا " منادى ، " وتغفر لنا " ، ( لنكونن من الخاسرين ) أي : من الهالكين وهذا اعتراف منهم بذنبهم والتجاء إلى الله عز وجل .
