Quran 8:52

Surah Al-Anfaal, Verse 52

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

Word by word

كَدَأْبِ kadabi Like (the) way ءَالِ āli (of) people فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ fir'ʿawna (of) Firaun وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who مِن min (were) from قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim before them كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū They disbelieved بِـَٔايَـٰتِ biāyāti in (the) Signs ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah فَأَخَذَهُمُ fa-akhadhahumu so seized them ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ bidhunūbihim for their sins إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah قَوِىٌّۭ qawiyyun (is) All-Strong شَدِيدُ shadīdu (and) severe ٱلْعِقَابِ l-ʿiqābi (in) the penalty

Transliteration

Kada/bi ali firAAawna wallatheenamin qablihim kafaroo bi-ayati Allahi faakhathahumuAllahu bithunoobihim inna Allaha qawiyyunshadeedu alAAiqab

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(Their way is) as the way of Pharaoh's folk and those before them; they disbelieved the revelations of Allah, and Allah took them in their sins. Lo! Allah is Strong, severe in punishment.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"(Deeds) after the manner of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them: They rejected the Signs of Allah, and Allah punished them for their crimes: for Allah is Strong, and Strict in punishment:

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : فعل هؤلاء المشركون المكذبون بما أرسلت به يا محمد كما فعل الأمم المكذبة قبلهم ، ففعلنا بهم ما هو دأبنا ، أي عادتنا وسنتنا في أمثالهم من المكذبين من آل فرعون ومن قبلهم من الأمم المكذبة بالرسل ، الكافرين بآيات الله . ( فأخذهم الله بذنوبهم ) [ أي : بسبب ذنوبهم أهلكهم ، فأخذهم أخذ عزيز مقتدر ] ( إن الله قوي شديد العقاب ) أي : لا يغلبه غالب ، ولا يفوته هارب .
