Quran 9:99

Surah At-Tawba, Verse 99

وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِ أَلَآ إِنَّهَا قُرْبَةٌ لَّهُمْ سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Word by word

وَمِنَ wamina But among ٱلْأَعْرَابِ l-aʿrābi the bedouins مَن man (is he) who يُؤْمِنُ yu'minu believes بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ wal-yawmi and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ l-ākhiri the Last وَيَتَّخِذُ wayattakhidhu and takes مَا mā what يُنفِقُ yunfiqu he spends قُرُبَـٰتٍ qurubātin (as) means of nearness عِندَ ʿinda with ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah وَصَلَوَٰتِ waṣalawāti and blessings ٱلرَّسُولِ ۚ l-rasūli (of) the Messenger أَلَآ alā Behold إِنَّهَا innahā Indeed, it قُرْبَةٌۭ qur'batun (is) a means of nearness لَّهُمْ ۚ lahum for them سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ sayud'khiluhumu Allah will admit them ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah will admit them فِى fī to رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ ۗ raḥmatihi His Mercy إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah غَفُورٌۭ ghafūrun (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌۭ raḥīmun Most Merciful

Transliteration

Wamina al-aAArabi man yu/minu billahiwalyawmi al-akhiri wayattakhithu mayunfiqu qurubatin AAinda Allahi wasalawatiarrasooli ala innaha qurbatun lahumsayudkhiluhumu Allahu fee rahmatihi inna Allahaghafoorun raheem

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And of the wandering Arabs there is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and taketh that which he expendeth and also the prayers of the messenger as acceptable offerings in the sight of Allah. Lo! verily it is an acceptable offering for them. Allah will bring them into His mercy. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on their payments as pious gifts bringing them nearer to Allah and obtaining the prayers of the Messenger. Aye, indeed they bring them nearer (to Him): soon will Allah admit them to His Mercy: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ومن الأعراب من يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر ويتخذ ما ينفق قربات عند الله وصلوات الرسول ) هذا هو القسم الممدوح من الأعراب ، وهم الذين يتخذون ما ينفقون في سبيل الله قربة يتقربون بها عند الله ، ويبتغون بذلك دعاء الرسول لهم ، ( ألا إنها قربة لهم ) أي : ألا إن ذلك حاصل لهم ، ( سيدخلهم الله في رحمته إن الله غفور رحيم )
