Quran 10:21

Surah Yunus, Verse 21

وَإِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحْمَةً مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتْهُمْ إِذَا لَهُم مَّكْرٌ فِىٓ ءَايَاتِنَا قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَسْرَعُ مَكْرًا إِنَّ رُسُلَنَا يَكْتُبُونَ مَا تَمْكُرُونَ

Word by word

وَإِذَآ wa-idhā And when أَذَقْنَا adhaqnā We let [the] mankind taste ٱلنَّاسَ l-nāsa We let [the] mankind taste رَحْمَةًۭ raḥmatan mercy مِّنۢ min after بَعْدِ baʿdi after ضَرَّآءَ ḍarrāa adversity مَسَّتْهُمْ massathum has touched them إِذَا idhā behold لَهُم lahum They have مَّكْرٌۭ makrun a plot فِىٓ fī against ءَايَاتِنَا ۚ āyātinā Our Verses قُلِ quli Say ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah أَسْرَعُ asraʿu (is) more swift مَكْرًا ۚ makran (in) planning إِنَّ inna Indeed رُسُلَنَا rusulanā Our Messengers يَكْتُبُونَ yaktubūna write down مَا mā what تَمْكُرُونَ tamkurūna you plot

Transliteration

Wa-itha athaqna annasarahmatan min baAAdi darraa massat-hum ithalahum makrun fee ayatina quli AllahuasraAAu makran inna rusulana yaktuboona matamkuroon

Translations

And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy after some adversity which had afflicted them, behold! they have some plot against Our revelations. Say: Allah is more swift in plotting. Lo! Our messengers write down that which ye plot.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

When We make mankind taste of some mercy after adversity hath touched them, behold! they take to plotting against Our Signs! Say: "Swifter to plan is Allah!" Verily, Our messengers record all the plots that ye make!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى أنه إذا أذاق الناس رحمة من بعد ضراء مستهم ، كالرخاء بعد الشدة ، والخصب بعد الجدب ، والمطر بعد القحط ونحو ذلك ( إذا لهم مكر في آياتنا ) .

قال مجاهد : استهزاء وتكذيب . كما قال : ( وإذا مس الإنسان الضر دعانا لجنبه أو قاعدا أو قائما فلما كشفنا عنه ضره مر كأن لم يدعنا إلى ضر مسه ) [ يونس : 12 ] ، وفي الصحيح أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى بهم الصبح على أثر سماء - مطر - أصابهم من الليل ثم قال : " هل تدرون ماذا قال ربكم الليلة ؟ " قالوا الله ورسوله أعلم . قال : " قال : أصبح من عبادي مؤمن بي وكافر ، فأما من قال : مطرنا بفضل الله ورحمته ، فذلك مؤمن بي كافر بالكوكب ، وأما من قال : مطرنا بنوء كذا وكذا ، فذاك كافر بي مؤمن بالكوكب " .

وقوله : ( قل الله أسرع مكرا ) أي : أشد استدراجا وإمهالا حتى يظن الظان من المجرمين أنه ليس بمعذب ، وإنما هو في مهلة ، ثم يؤخذ على غرة منه ، والكاتبون الكرام يكتبون عليه جميع ما يفعله ، ويحصونه عليه ، ثم يعرضونه على عالم الغيب والشهادة ، فيجازيه على الحقير والجليل والنقير والقطمير .
