Quran 11:13

Surah Hud, Verse 13

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ مُفْتَرَيَٰتٍ وَٱدْعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Word by word

أَمْ am Or يَقُولُونَ yaqūlūna they say افْتَرَاهُ ۖ if'tarāhu He has fabricated it قُلْ qul Say فَأْتُوا۟ fatū Then bring بِعَشْرِ biʿashri ten سُوَرٍۢ suwarin Surahs مِّثْلِهِۦ mith'lihi like it مُفْتَرَيَـٰتٍۢ muf'tarayātin fabricated وَٱدْعُوا۟ wa-id'ʿū and call مَنِ mani whoever ٱسْتَطَعْتُم is'taṭaʿtum you can مِّن min besides Allah دُونِ dūni besides Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi besides Allah إِن in if كُنتُمْ kuntum you are صَـٰدِقِينَ ṣādiqīna truthful

Transliteration

Am yaqooloona iftarahu qul fa/toobiAAashri suwarin mithlihi muftarayatin wadAAoomani istataAAtum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeen

Translations

Or they say: He hath invented it. Say: Then bring ten surahs, the like thereof, invented, and call on everyone ye can beside Allah, if ye are truthful!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Or they may say, "He forged it," Say, "Bring ye then ten suras forged, like unto it, and call (to your aid) whomsoever ye can, other than Allah!- If ye speak the truth!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم بين تعالى إعجاز القرآن ، وأنه لا يستطيع البشر الإتيان بمثله ، ولا بعشر سور [ من ] مثله ، ولا بسورة من مثله; لأن كلام الرب لا يشبهه كلام المخلوقين ، كما أن صفاته لا تشبه صفات المحدثات ، وذاته لا يشبهها شيء ، تعالى وتقدس وتنزه ، لا إله إلا هو ولا رب سواه .
