Quran 11:43

Surah Hud, Verse 43

قَالَ سَـَٔاوِىٓ إِلَىٰ جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِى مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ قَالَ لَا عَاصِمَ ٱلْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلْمَوْجُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُغْرَقِينَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla He said سَـَٔاوِىٓ saāwī I will betake myself إِلَىٰ ilā to جَبَلٍۢ jabalin a mountain يَعْصِمُنِى yaʿṣimunī (that) will save me مِنَ mina from ٱلْمَآءِ ۚ l-māi the water قَالَ qāla He said لَا lā (There is) no عَاصِمَ ʿāṣima protector ٱلْيَوْمَ l-yawma today مِنْ min from أَمْرِ amri the Command of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi the Command of Allah إِلَّا illā except مَن man (on) whom رَّحِمَ ۚ raḥima He has mercy وَحَالَ waḥāla And came بَيْنَهُمَا baynahumā (in) between them ٱلْمَوْجُ l-mawju the waves فَكَانَ fakāna so he was مِنَ mina among ٱلْمُغْرَقِينَ l-mugh'raqīna the drowned

Transliteration

Qala saawee ila jabalinyaAAsimunee mina alma-i qala la AAasimaalyawma min amri Allahi illa man rahima wahalabaynahuma almawju fakana mina almughraqeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

He said: I shall betake me to some mountain that will save me from the water. (Noah) said: This day there is none that saveth from the commandment of Allah save him on whom He hath had mercy. And the wave came in between them, so he was among the drowned.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

The son replied: "I will betake myself to some mountain: it will save me from the water." Noah said: "This day nothing can save, from the command of Allah, any but those on whom He hath mercy! "And the waves came between them, and the son was among those overwhelmed in the Flood.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( قال سآوي إلى جبل يعصمني من الماء ) وقيل : إنه اتخذ له مركبا من زجاج ، وهذا من الإسرائيليات ، والله أعلم بصحته . والذي نص عليه القرآن أنه قال : ( قال سآوي إلى جبل يعصمني من الماء ) اعتقد بجهله أن الطوفان لا يبلغ إلى رءوس الجبال ، وأنه لو تعلق في رأس جبل لنجاه ذلك من الغرق ، فقال له أبوه نوح ، عليه السلام : ( لا عاصم اليوم من أمر الله إلا من رحم ) أي : ليس شيء يعصم اليوم من أمر الله . وقيل : إن عاصما بمعنى معصوم ، كما يقال : " طاعم وكاس " ، بمعنى مطعوم ومكسو ، ( وحال بينهما الموج فكان من المغرقين ) .
