Quran 11:50

Surah Hud, Verse 50

وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا مُفْتَرُونَ

Word by word

وَإِلَىٰ wa-ilā And to عَادٍ ʿādin Aad أَخَاهُمْ akhāhum (We sent) their brother هُودًۭا ۚ hūdan Hud قَالَ qāla He said يَـٰقَوْمِ yāqawmi O my people ٱعْبُدُوا۟ uʿ'budū Worship ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah مَا mā not لَكُم lakum (is) for you مِّنْ min any إِلَـٰهٍ ilāhin god غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ ghayruhu other than Him إِنْ in Not أَنتُمْ antum you إِلَّا illā (are) but مُفْتَرُونَ muf'tarūna inventors

Transliteration

Wa-ila AAadin akhahumhoodan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu in antum illa muftaroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And unto (the tribe of) A'ad (We sent) their brother, Hud. He said: O my people! Serve Allah! Ye have no other Allah save Him. Lo! ye do but invent.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

To the 'Ad People (We sent) Hud, one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. (Your other gods) ye do nothing but invent!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى "و" لقد أرسلنا "إلى عاد أخاهم هودا" آمرا لهم بعبادة الله وحده لا شريك له ناهيا لهم عن الأوثان التي افتروها واختلقوا لها أسماء الآلهة.
