Quran 11:53

Surah Hud, Verse 53

قَالُوا۟ يَٰهُودُ مَا جِئْتَنَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَارِكِىٓ ءَالِهَتِنَا عَن قَوْلِكَ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

Word by word

قَالُوا۟ qālū They said يَـٰهُودُ yāhūdu O Hud مَا mā You have not brought us جِئْتَنَا ji'tanā You have not brought us بِبَيِّنَةٍۢ bibayyinatin clear proofs وَمَا wamā and not نَحْنُ naḥnu we بِتَارِكِىٓ bitārikī (will) leave ءَالِهَتِنَا ālihatinā our gods عَن ʿan on قَوْلِكَ qawlika your saying وَمَا wamā and not نَحْنُ naḥnu we (are) لَكَ laka in you بِمُؤْمِنِينَ bimu'minīna believers

Transliteration

Qaloo ya hoodu maji/tana bibayyinatin wama nahnu bitarikeealihatina AAan qawlika wama nahnulaka bimu/mineen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

They said: O Hud! Thou hast brought us no clear proof and we are not going to forsake our gods on thy (mere) saying, and we are not believers in thee.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

They said: "O Hud! No Clear (Sign) that hast thou brought us, and we are not the ones to desert our gods on thy word! Nor shall we believe in thee!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى [ إخبارا عن قوم هود ] أنهم قالوا لنبيهم : ( ما جئتنا ببينة ) أي : بحجة [ ولا دلالة ] [ ولا ] وبرهان على ما تدعيه ، ( وما نحن بتاركي آلهتنا عن قولك ) أي : بمجرد قولك : " اتركوهم " نتركهم ، ( وما نحن لك بمؤمنين ) [ أي ] بمصدقين
