Quran 12:45

Surah Yusuf, Verse 45

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِى نَجَا مِنْهُمَا وَٱدَّكَرَ بَعْدَ أُمَّةٍ أَنَا۠ أُنَبِّئُكُم بِتَأْوِيلِهِۦ فَأَرْسِلُونِ

Word by word

وَقَالَ waqāla But said ٱلَّذِى alladhī the one who نَجَا najā was saved مِنْهُمَا min'humā of the two وَٱدَّكَرَ wa-iddakara and remembered بَعْدَ baʿda after أُمَّةٍ ummatin a period أَنَا۠ anā I أُنَبِّئُكُم unabbi-ukum [I] will inform you بِتَأْوِيلِهِۦ bitawīlihi of its interpretation فَأَرْسِلُونِ fa-arsilūni so send me forth

Transliteration

Waqala allathee najaminhuma waddakara baAAda ommatin anaonabbi-okum bita/weelihi faarsiloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And he of the two who was released, and (now) at length remembered, said: I am going to announce unto you the interpretation, therefore send me forth.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But the man who had been released, one of the two (who had been in prison) and who now bethought him after (so long) a space of time, said: "I will tell you the truth of its interpretation: send ye me (therefore)."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

فعند ذلك تذكر ذلك الذي نجا من ذينك الفتيين اللذين كانا في السجن مع يوسف ، وكان الشيطان قد أنساه ما وصاه به يوسف ، من ذكر أمره للملك ، فعند ذلك تذكر ) بعد أمة ) أي : مدة ، وقرأ بعضهم : " بعد أمة " أي : بعد نسيان ، فقال للملك والذين جمعهم لذلك : ( أنا أنبئكم بتأويله ) أي : بتأويل هذا المنام ، ( فأرسلون ) أي : فابعثون إلى يوسف الصديق إلى السجن . ومعنى الكلام : فبعثوا فجاء .
